HOW TO TREAT NEUROSIS INDEPENDENTLY?

Neurosis is a common name for a group of inversive psychogenic (caused by a mental state, but not by a physical disorder) disorders. Personal life problems, financial difficulties, psychological pressure from surrounding people, guilt complex, high autosuggestibility – these are the main reasons for the neuroses development.

How does neurosis appear?

In spite of the psychogenic nature of neurosis, there are both mental and physical manifestations among the symptoms of such a disorder.

Mental manifestations:

  • Stress hypersusceptibility, vulnerability and offense sensitivity;
  • Anxiety;
  • Tearfulness;
  • Sleep disturbances (it is difficult to fall asleep, in the morning the patient does not feel that he/she had a good night sleep);
  • Defective memory, impairment in ability to concentrate.

Physical manifestations:

  • Increased fatiguability;
  • High sensitivity to bright light and loud sounds;
  • Decrease or increase of pressure;
  • Intestinal issues;
  • Sweating;
  • Pounding heart;
  • Sexual potency lowering.

Symptoms have severe negative nature and, if you do not fight against neurosis, it can lead to its aggravation. In case of neurosis the doctor will recommend you to go to psychotherapist counselling – this is an absolutely right decision, but it can be supplemented with a set of general health measures. And in case of neurosis, these measures may be sufficient in order to completely eliminate the problem.

How to cure neurosis at home?

Due to the fact that the cause of neurosis is always psychological – and, in one way or another, it is associated with stress – the main task in case of the independent treatment of neurosis – is the stress load minimization. Fairly simple but very effective techniques are used for this purpose.

Normal rest

At rapid-fire pace of the modern life, many people just forget that a person needs an average of seven to nine hours of sleep for a good rest. It is the lack of sleep, coupled with high daily stress that leads to the appearance of neuroses: a person overworks, he/she does not have time to recover, and then he/she overworks even more…

As a result, permanent physical stress accumulates; the quality of life sharply decreases. Moreover: not getting enough sleep, a person loses the ability to concentrate on work, he/she becomes less successful in daily affairs – psychoemotional stress begins to accumulate.

If you want to cure neurosis on your own, you need to normalize your sleep-wake schedule. Set aside at least 7-8 hours for a sleep, for this purpose you should go to bed and get up at the same time. This will not only save you from a neurosis, but also lead to the general body health promotion.

Healthy diet

Although neuroses have the psychogenic nature, it is necessary to remember that the mood and overall well-being of a person depends very heavily on objective physiological causes. The following things have key value:

Folic acid. It provides the serotonin production, the feel-good chemical. It is contained in bananas, citrus, cabbage and greens (sorrel, lettuce, spinach, etc.);

Vitamin B. It is also required for the production of serotonin. In addition, with a lack of B-group vitamins a person feels constant fatigue and weakness, expressed anxiety – such violations do provoke neuroses. Vitamins B are found in fermented milk products, cereals, green vegetables, chicken meat, hazelnuts, eggs;

Vitamin C. It is required for assimilating vitamins of B group; it protects the body from overloads and helps to relieve the symptoms of neurosis. It can be found in citrus fruits, berries, vegetables.

Try to eat at the same time of the day, keeping regular hours. In this case, useful substances are digested in the best way, and the level of stress is minimal. Also, it is strongly recommended to refuse any stimulators (for example, refuse coffee) – in case of constant use they cause easy addiction and emotionally drain the nervous system. Definitely it is necessary to minimize the alcohol and cigarettes intake, and in an ideal scenario to refuse them completely.

Physical exercises

Permanent athletic overexertion is another common cause of neurosis. To combat it, the usual exercises and trainings are applied:

  • Fitness;
  • Cycling;
  • Swimming;
  • Running;
  • Dancing;
  • Yoga.

Sports and dancing will help to switch off from routine everyday problems, to make the body filled in, to feel more vigorous. They do not directly affect the causes of the neurosis, but they improve the general condition and help to cope with stress.

Breathing exercises

In order to cure neurosis on your own, you need to pay attention to proper breathing. Breathing exercises help improve blood circulation, ensure cerebral blood supply, and settle the nervous system. Focusing on breathing, you can distract from mental stress and achieve release of endorphin into the blood – the hormone affecting the positive mood.

General breathing exercises can increase the blood oxygen saturation. For a complex effect – in order to normalize the CO2 level – you can use the Aironic respiratory simulator; it makes respiratory gymnastics as efficient and convenient as possible.

Therapy baths

A hot bath helps to relax, relieve physical and psychoemotional tension – what is necessary at independent treatment of neurosis. To enhance the effect, you can add daisy, pine needles, lavender or rosemary to the water. A contrast shower also gives a good effect: alternating dousing with cold and hot water.

The key role in the treatment of neurosis is always the removal of psychoemotional stress and the normalization of sleep-wake schedule. Ensure a stable and long-lasting sleep, avoid overfatigues and conflicts, do respiratory gymnastics and physical exercises. In most cases this would be enough.
